The Institute of Bio-Geosciences – Plant Sciences (IBG-2) at Forschungszentrum Jülich develops integrated bioeconomic concepts for the sustainable intensification of crop production. The aim is to improve yield, adjust quality to various forms of use (groceries, animal feed, raw materials, bioenergy), close nutrient cycles,to shapeadapt processes to future climateproduction conditions. IBG-2 is a world leader in the field of plant phenotyping, driven by its outstanding expertise in explaining the dynamic interactionplantsthe environment, combined with technological development, engineeringbioinformatics. Within this context, the institute developsoperates relevant next-generation infrastructure platformstechnologies in these fieldsmakes them available to external users (DPPN, EPPN2020, IPPN, EMPHASIS). Infrastructure platforms for plant phenotyping produce large volumes of data, which require sound management to ensure they are available, accessible, interoperablereusable for the scientific community. Within the scope of the EPPN 2020, Emphasis,EOSC-Life projects, IBG-2 is working together with international partners on a pan-European e-infrastructureis developing data management strategies toolsdemonstrators.
The aims of the position are: (i) to structurestandardize existing data to enable interoperability; (ii) to prepare metadata in accordance with the FAIR principles;(iii) to develop software that is capable of handling large volumes of scientific data, adapting itself to evolving data models,enabling useful access in the form of a standard application programming interface (API)a standard graphical user interface (GUI). Furthermore, it must be easy to aggregate the data models in ontologiesmodel sets. These tools must be developed to automatically generate the aforementioned standard APIGUI for such aof data models. Data storage must be capable of integrating various technologiessupporting distribution.
We are looking to recruit a
Research scientist in the field of data management / big dataYour main task will be the development of newinnovative tools to enable the automatic generation of web services for large volumes of scientific data (big data)various sourcesdifferent formats, their back-end data access objects,a graphical user interface in the form of a single-page application (SPA).aof data model definitions (ontology) is given as input, the developed tools must recognize these definitions as suchgenerate a corresponding code that can be easily implementedsaved. The migration of generatedinstalled web services must also be takenaccount when developing code generators. The development of software must be in accordance with the demandsrequirements of the user community. The code generators will be programmed according to Scrum principles. You will take part in workshopsmeetings with the data producersusers who will use these software tools, as this will help you to develop data model definitions (ontologies). Here the gappure programmingdata consumers must be successfully closed.
